DEFINITION
Cookies are small text strings that sites visited by the user send to the user’s terminal (usually a browser), where they are stored and then retransmitted to the same sites the next time the same user visits. Cookies are distinguished according to the entity that installs them on the user’s terminal:
Proprietary cookies (so-called “first-party”): installed by the same operator of the site that the user is visiting, in order to allow the user to navigate more efficiently and/or to monitor the actions performed by the same;
Third-party cookies: while browsing the site, the user may also receive cookies on his/her terminal sent by sites or web servers other than the one he/she is currently visiting, for the same purposes as those mentioned above.
Cookies are used for different purposes and differ from each other precisely on the basis of the purpose for which they are used. They can be distinguished into:
“Technical cookies”: used for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communication network or to the extent strictly necessary for the provision of a service explicitly requested by the user: they allow the site that has installed them to remember, for example, the preferences expressed by the user while browsing or to make a purchase or to authenticate. Users’ prior consent is not required for the installation of such cookies, while the obligation to provide information remains in place;
“Statistical cookies”: used to monitor the performance of the site, for example, to find out the number of pages visited or the number of users who have viewed a particular section. The analysis of these cookies generates anonymous and aggregate statistical data without any reference to the identity of the site visitors. They are also useful for evaluating possible changes and improvements to the site itself;
“Profiling cookies”: aimed at creating profiles on the user, they allow the site that installed them to monitor the user’s browsing also for the purpose of sending advertising or offering services in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the web. Due to the particular invasiveness of such devices, European and Italian regulations require that the user be adequately informed about their use and express his/her valid consent to their use;
“Social Network Cookies”: these allow you to share the contents of the site you are visiting with other users or to express your opinion about it. These are the cookies typically used to activate the “Like” or “Follow” functions of Social Networks such as Facebook and Twitter, to name but a few. These functions allow Social Networks to identify their users and collect information even while they are surfing other sites. We recommend that you consult the privacy policy of each of the Social Networks used in order to find out the purposes and methods of the processing of personal data carried out by them.
In order to constantly improve and optimize the service, the site uses tracking technologies from Google Analytics to perform statistical analyses of the site.
