Indications

Colonpeg is indicated for bowel preparation prior to virtual colonoscopy: it softens the feces and makes them homogeneous for fecal marking

How does it work?

Magrogol is a water-soluble inert polymer with a high molecular weight that has the ability to bind to water used for intake by retaining it in the feces. It rehydrates and softens the fecal mass, without being absorbed or metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract

How to use?

Preparation of the solution

Each sachet should be poured into 1 liter of water while stirring until completely dissolved. To ensure the dissolution of the ingredients, it is recommended to shake vigorously several times. Dissolution is facilitated by using lukewarm water. No additional ingredients, such as flavorings, should be added to the solution.

Dosage and administration

For dosage and how to take the product, carefully follow the protocol recommended by your doctor. The recommended dosage usually ranges from 1 to 2 liters of solution, depending also on any concomitant treatment prescribed by the doctor. The solution is normally taken within 2 hours the evening before the examination or on the day of the examination. In order to avoid the feeling of thirst and dehydration-related phenomena, it is advisable to take several glasses of water or another clear liquid (broth, fruit juice without pulp, tea, or coffee without milk).

Contraindications

Do not take Colonpeg in case of:

  • hypersensitivity to one or more components
  • intestinal perforation, obstruction, or stenosis
  • paralytic ileus
  • severe inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g. ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, toxic megacolon)

The use of laxatives is contraindicated in cases of acute abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, and severe dehydration.
